What Is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a hair removal treatment that involves a fine probe being inserted into hair follicles and then passing an electric charge through the surrounding cells. By targeting the hair follicle, electrolysis is suited for all types of hair and skin. Electrolysis gets rid of thin, thick and coarse hair. Your hair removal plan will have to be customized according to your body and desired results. Permanent hair removal by electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal. The FDA is responsible for protecting and promoting public health and is the regulating body for medical devices. Electrolysis can be the perfect solution for removing stubborn body hair. Regardless of the cause of your unwanted hair growth – heredity, metabolic, or hormonal conditions – electrolysis will permanently remove unwanted hair to reveal a glowing, confident you.

Electrolysis and Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs and razor bumps are also known as pseudofolliculitis. Hair that curls back or grows sideways can enter the skin and cause inflammation. The skin reacts like the hair is a foreign body, and gets inflamed and irritated. If badly handled, ingrown hairs can cause skin conditions such as permanent scarring and hyperpigmentation (skin darkening). Ingrown hair growth can be extremely uncomfortable and more unsightly than the hair you were trying to remove. Why not put an end to the ingrown hair problem permanently? Electrolysis offers a permanent solution for ingrown hairs. Electrolysis can remove ingrown hairs from your leg, face, underarms, stomach, or any other body part.

Can I Get Electrolysis If I Have Hyperpigmentation?

04

Hyperpigmentation is a common condition that makes some areas of the skin darker than others. “Hyper” means more, and “pigment” means color. A culprit causing hyperpigmentation is ingrown hair. Hyperpigmentation can appear as brown, black, gray, red or pink spots or patches. The spots are sometimes called age spots, sun spots, or liver spots. The three main types include:

  • age spots
  • melasma
  • post-inflammatory trauma

The spots can occur on the face, in just one area of the body, or all over. Hyperpigmentation can affect people of any race or ethnicity. While hyperpigmentation does not pose a health risk, many clients with hyperpigmentation are concerned about hair removal in the area affected by hyperpigmentation. Good news: electrolysis is very safe and effective on hyperpigmented skin! Unlike laser hair removal, which can actually cause hyperpigmentation, electrolysis will help you get rid of unwanted hair forever, even if the area you wish to treat has hyperpigmentation

Electrolysis Hair Removal and Acne Blemishes

Acne, otherwise known as zits, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, or pustules, is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Approximately 50% of women in their 20s, 33% of women in their 30s, and 25% of women in their 40s suffer from acne. Severe cases of acne can cause cysts and nodules to form under the skin and can result in scarring, which can be permanent. So can you get electrolysis if you suffer from acne blemishes or scars? The answer is Yes! If your facial hair is accompanied by acne, electrolysis treatment can also reduce the severity of acne as it destroys the sebaceous glands attached to the targeted follicles. Another benefit of electrolysis for acne-prone skin is that the additional irritation of shaving can be avoided. Important note: Do not use any products containing retinoids for at least 2 weeks prior to electrolysis. Please see our website for complete electrolysis aftercare instructions.
